Gangtok is the capital and the largest city in the northeastern Indian state of Sikkim. Resting at a height of 1,650 meters above sea level, Gangtok offers a breathtaking view of the Himalayan ranges including Mount Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world. Known for it's serene and clean environment, Gangtok blends tradition with modernity. This is visible as the streets are lined up with prayer flags and monasteries such as Enchey Monastery and Rumtek Monastery, adding to the spiritual ambience. The Tibetan Buddhism has been deeply rooted among the people as it is reflected by architectures, festivals, handicrafts and the warm hospitality of the locals. Nature lovers will find many opportunities for exploration such as the Tsogmo or Changu Lake, elevated at 3,753 meters. The lake is surrounded by snow capped mountains and is located near Nathu-La pass, the Indo-China border. MG Marg, one of the main streets in Gangtok is the street filled with cafes, restaurants and hotels. The pedestrian only path is usually bustling with people and and is an excellent spot to soak in the local culture. Visitors can explore the handicraft market, where various traditional Sikkimese artifacts and handmade goods are put on display. Gangtok serves as a gateway to many other places such as Pelling, Lachen and Lachung. The cool climate makes Gangtok an all-year round holiday destination.
