Mirik

Mirik is a picturesque town situated in the Darjeeling district in West Bengal. Sitting at approximately 1,495 meters above sea level, Mirik is surrounded by dense forests, lush tea gardens and orange orchards, offering a tranquil escape from the city life. The name 'Mirik' comes from the Lepcha word 'mir-yok', meaning 'place burnt by fire'. The heart of Mirik is the famous Sumendu Lake, with a blanket of pine trees on one side and a well maintained garden on the other side. The two sides are connected by 'Indreni Pull' or 'Rainbow Bridge'. This lake is popular for boating and horse riding with reflection of the surrounding trees in the clear water creating a peaceful ambience. Another major attraction is the Bokar Cho Ling Monastery, known for it's spiritual ambience, meditation facilities and panoramic view of the Mirik town. This monastery is also a center for Buddhist studies and teachings. Mirik is also famous for it's various high quality teas from different areas such as Thurbo Tea Estate, Okaity Tea Estate and Golpahar Tea Estate. For nature lovers, Mirik offers several hiking and trekking opportunities, including the nearby Singalila Forest National Park with a variety of flora and fauna. The climate in Mirik is pleasant throughout the year, with summers being cool and winters being cold, making it an ideal destination for tourists seeking a peaceful time.
