Sittong

Sittong is an area located under the Kurseong sub-division within the Darjeeling district of West Bengal. Sittong is not just one village. It is a cluster of many villages under one name; such as Shelpu, Lanku, Rolak, Jogighat, Latpanchar and many more. Nestled in the lush greenery of the Eastern Himalayas, Sittong is renowned for it's tea gardens, orange orchards and scenic landscapes. Sittong offers a peaceful escape for those looking for a moment of peace in the middle of the hill regions. It lies at the center of all the other major towns in the Himalayas and makes it an easy factor for tourist to travel. The climate is moderate with cool summers and cold winters. Moonson covers Sittong in a lush green blanket that enhances the beauty even more. Sittong is best known for Aahal Dara Viewpoint. From this place, you can enjoy a whopping 180 degree view of the Himalayan ranges and the Teesta river flowing through it. Another major must visit point is Namthing Lake. There is a lore around this lake that one of the deity from Hinduism, Hanuman, had stepped at this area (thus creating the lake) while on his journey to find 'sanjeevni booti' to help Lakshman at the battle of Ramayan. Lepcha Falls is another major tourist attraction near Jogighat. You need to complete a small 15mins walk uphill to reach this breathtaking waterfall. The best time to visit Sittong would be during the winter season (November-February) to watch the oranges bloom at it's fullest.
